Discounts & Giveaways
The Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Services is constantly thinking up new ways to get the message of prevention out to students. Here are a few examples of giveaways that spread the word of safety.
NECASA Card Program for College Students
This program has a primary mission of reducing the risk of heavy drinking as well as alcohol poisoning through community involvement. Community businesses agree to present a discount to students involved in this program just by students presenting the NECASA card and their UConn ID at the time of purchase. It is an easy way to save money and get free or discounted merchandise, while having all of the signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning on your person for an easy reference in an emergency
Currently this program is being initiated through collaboration with Northeast Communities Against Substance Abuse (NECASA). For more information please visit their web-site at http://www.necasaonline.org
Students are asked to get involved so that you can guarantee the businesses you want discounts from are involved in the program. Download the NECASA Card Brochure
Students are encouraged to visit the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Services to get a card!
Have You Received the Message in a Bottle?
As part of our mission of prevention, intervention, and education the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Services is starting a new marketing campaign to promote safer and healthier behaviors surrounding alcohol consumption.
“Keep it close, keep it covered, keep it safe” is an effort to raise awareness about the dangers associated with GHB and other possible date rape drugs. It also educates students on the necessity to practice safer behaviors when drinking, including providing an alternative to glass bottles.
Do It Sober
The “Do It Sober” shirt is one of our most popular giveaways. The message behind the shirt is that there are plenty of activities here at UConn that students can participate in that do not include consuming alcohol.
